Leon Thomas of Renegade Cut joins us ahead of the revival of his series Attack of the Trek to talk about the original Star Trek pilot “The Cage”. There’s no Kirk, no McCoy, no Chekov not even a Yeoman Rand in sight. But we do get a disturbingly emotive Spock, a Doctor with a medical bag filled with booze, a female first officer and a guy who just stands by the turbo lift for no reason.
This week we take a look at the debut episode of Shotgun Saturday Night! This was the WWF’s attempt at doing an edgy, late night show and it’s totally culturally sensitive and not at all denigrating to women.
Our road to WrestleMania continues! This week Alan returns and goes in blind to his first wrestling programme in over a decade. It’s Wrestling Society X – MTV’s over eager hyper active attempt at a wrestling show. Prepare for CGI explosions, hyper active ring announcers, Zack Wylde and the man Alan dubbed “Tesco Brand Marlyn Manson”.
I made an appearance in Guilty Pleasure Cinema’s 3rd anniversary video alongside a whole heap of other people including but not limited to Diamanda Hagan, Matt from Wreckless Eating and some of the folks from Isle of Rangoon. It’s well worth checking out! I turn up in part 2.
It’s the road to WrestleMania so what better way to celebrate then looking at failed attempts at wrestling TV shows? This week Alan tags out to be replaced by Jason Mann who is the host of Wrestlespective, The Alfred Hitchcast and The Over and Back podcast. Patrick and Jason get IN YOUR FACE as they talk about the XWF.

OK, so we’re slightly cheating this week. Since there’s no full pilot available for MST3K we’re going to be looking at the 4th episode of the original Mystery Science Theater 3000 series from Minneapolis-St. Paul area channel KTMA TV 23. Also this is the first time we look at the humble beginnings of a show that would go on to become a classic series.
